I want to share my email with y'all but my mom has access to my email and I'm pretty sure she reads most of the emails I send and receive. I don't think she would want me to be putting my email on here because she doesn't really understand in depth the CB and everything. Like, what awesome people you are XD.
Hi Leafpool! I guess this blog is pretty dead... I do check up on it periodically, though. It might be nice to try to reboot it or make something new, because Katy and Nova (the original admins fro this blog) aren't very involved in CB anymore/at all.

I am! It's actually kinda nice---CB is down at the same time as school is off, so I don't have to worry about what I'm missing. Do you think they'll make any changes to the website's UI while they're fixing it?
Hey yeah it seems the CB has been taken down for maintenance, hopefully it'll be back better than before! It's crazy how much I take it for granted, I miss it more than I thought I would.
And um, I actually only just discovered this place. Wow. So, um, hi ya'll! I swear I had a dream last week about a website that was yellow and looked like fading parchement- probably just the lack of CB getting to me- but today the site updated! It looks more sophisticated now, with a half-transparent black filter over the doodle of cricket and ladybug. Hope to chat with you all back on the CB very soon!

I wonder how similar or different it will be! I've literally been checking EVERY SINGLE DAY since it went down to see if it came back.
Aughhhhh Hawkstar!!!!!! *sends virtual hug* Same as well! I've been squirming in my seat every time I visit the site in anticipation of seeing something new appear- the CB logo changing into Cricket Media's symbol a few days ago nearly gave me a heart attack. I really wish the Webmaster and Admins could put an 'estimated time of new CB arrival' countdown on the front page, it would save me from a lot of depriviation anxiety. Hey all, so they just announced the Chatterbox is closing and I’m very sad. I hope as many people see this as possible, I’m going to create a Discord server and I’ll post info about it here as they won’t allow us to do so on the Chatterbox. Of course we could also just use this site, but I don’t trust it not to crash or break and for us to have no way of fixing it, you know? So yeah, if you’re not comfortable being on Discord I totally get it, but anyone who wants to stay in contact lmk :) I’ll be getting back to you with more info once the CB officially closes

I've had the idea to create an emailing list/Substack/newsletter for CBers once the site goes down. I'd send out a message every month or so with general updates, just as a fun and sweet reminder of the Chatterbox. Sort of like an MCU, but a bit different. Would you guys like that?

Discord is a social media app. You can use it to create servers, which are sort of like group chats/forums that are private to those who are in them. Also, I recommend that if you would like to share an email, you create an email account that doesn’t have your full name in it. It doesn’t take long and can be useful to have anyway; I use my Peri email to keep in touch with online friends, but I also use it to sign up for random apps or email lists XD

I'm not going to put my email address here because it has my full name, but I'll email it to Peri and if the newsletter thing comes to fruit, then she could make it so everyone on the email list could see my email? Update: I'll probably make a nameless email address and use it for CB matters, including the email list. Also, question to all: There's a cloud service called Proton that says it doesn't use user data to train AI. (It does have an AI assistant that I think we can refuse to use.) Do we want to put the CB Archive on it? I can make a free account for all of us and share the username and password here, and then we can upload our archive documents. This is just because there's been a conversation on the CB about Microsoft and Google using our data for AI training. I heard about Proton first through the CB and encountered it through some activism-related stuff; I haven't actually used it, but I thought it might work well for us.

Thunder, when you sign into Minecraft for the 1st time, ALL of the worlds you played in when you were signed out of Minecraft, (which you said has been the entire time you’ve played the game for) disappear forever. This has happened to people I know, and it is AWFUL. If you would like to avoid losing your worlds and still be able to play online, I’d suggest buying Minecraft on a different device after your 18th birthday and signing into it then. Because you just bought Minecraft on that device, you won’t lose any worlds. It does mean you will have to go back and forth between two devices when you are playing the game, but it’s better than losing all your hard work. Hope this helps!
There are ways to save them, but they are really complex and it depends on the device. So they may not work depending on the device you have. I just thought you should know.

(And remember, to put -AI at the end, so you’re not contributing to the bad stuff it’s doing to the environment and other stuff.) I think on the chatterbox they just don’t want little kids going on less protected sites or getting exposed to content they’re not ready for. But I’m pretty sure none of us are little kids, and parental control systems are a thing, so I think it’s fine!

Just a note: I found out that Microsoft says it doesn't scrape (use to train AI) Word documents that aren't on the cloud or that you haven't asked Copilot for "help" with. On the CB, I had said that Microsoft did scrape Word documents, but I found it on the support community rather than the actual website (I use a fairly crummy search engine, although it plants trees with each search). I feel really bad about spreading misinformation, especially since a lot of us are very opposed to AI, so here it is corrected.
I don’t Love AI, but it is a helpful tool. I use it for ideas/inspiration some times. It does really help tbh. Also, don’t trust things online!! They aren’t very accurate all the time. The one thing to trust is… say u wanted to know something about Disney World. Look at a trusted website and not Reddit or some random forum like that…. Yeah… that was random… sorry!!!
My big problems with AI are that it is that it is, for one thing, very bad for the environment (it uses sooo much water!), and that it was trained by stealing from writers and artists all over the world.
btw are my emails comin through??? not tryin to be pushy or anythin, i just have trust issues with my phone sendin emails/texts (im only able to text with one of my other friends in the gc we’re in with two of our other friends cause her phone isnt allowin her to send texts to me while my messages go through)

I’m doing pretty good! It’s almost summer break, and then in the fall I’m gonna be starting high school, which is crazy. In a few weeks my family’s heading up to the ADK for a week with my grandparents and aunt. We go every year, and stay in the family cottage that we have up there. My grandparents rented it for a while and then 17 years ago, the owner died so they gave it to us. I’ll probably do some mountain climbing. It should be fun!
Is the chatting doc not opening properly for anyone else? If I click on the link, I get "Decrypting your document" and then one of those "it's almost ready" circles that you find everywhere on computers, and then a page that has the very top heading strip that shows the name of the doc and a square with my initial in it but is otherwise completely white. I used to be able to get into it, but I'm not able to anymore.

ReplyDeleteDiscord is a social media app. You can use it to create servers, which are sort of like group chats/forums that are private to those who are in them. Also, I recommend that if you would like to share an email, you create an email account that doesn’t have your full name in it. It doesn’t take long and can be useful to have anyway; I use my Peri email to keep in touch with online friends, but I also use it to sign up for random apps or email lists XD

ReplyDeleteAlso, question to all: There's a cloud service called Proton that says it doesn't use user data to train AI. (It does have an AI assistant that I think we can refuse to use.) Do we want to put the CB Archive on it? I can make a free account for all of us and share the username and password here, and then we can upload our archive documents. This is just because there's been a conversation on the CB about Microsoft and Google using our data for AI training. I heard about Proton first through the CB and encountered it through some activism-related stuff; I haven't actually used it, but I thought it might work well for us.

ReplyDeleteThunder, when you sign into Minecraft for the 1st time, ALL of the worlds you played in when you were signed out of Minecraft, (which you said has been the entire time you’ve played the game for) disappear forever. This has happened to people I know, and it is AWFUL. If you would like to avoid losing your worlds and still be able to play online, I’d suggest buying Minecraft on a different device after your 18th birthday and signing into it then. Because you just bought Minecraft on that device, you won’t lose any worlds. It does mean you will have to go back and forth between two devices when you are playing the game, but it’s better than losing all your hard work. Hope this helps!

ReplyDeleteJust a note: I found out that Microsoft says it doesn't scrape (use to train AI) Word documents that aren't on the cloud or that you haven't asked Copilot for "help" with. On the CB, I had said that Microsoft did scrape Word documents, but I found it on the support community rather than the actual website (I use a fairly crummy search engine, although it plants trees with each search). I feel really bad about spreading misinformation, especially since a lot of us are very opposed to AI, so here it is corrected.
ReplyDeleteI don’t Love AI, but it is a helpful tool. I use it for ideas/inspiration some times. It does really help tbh. Also, don’t trust things online!! They aren’t very accurate all the time. The one thing to trust is… say u wanted to know something about Disney World. Look at a trusted website and not Reddit or some random forum like that…. Yeah… that was random… sorry!!!
ReplyDeleteMy big problems with AI are that it is that it is, for one thing, very bad for the environment (it uses sooo much water!), and that it was trained by stealing from writers and artists all over the world.

DeleteIn a few weeks my family’s heading up to the ADK for a week with my grandparents and aunt. We go every year, and stay in the family cottage that we have up there. My grandparents rented it for a while and then 17 years ago, the owner died so they gave it to us. I’ll probably do some mountain climbing. It should be fun!
Is the chatting doc not opening properly for anyone else? If I click on the link, I get "Decrypting your document" and then one of those "it's almost ready" circles that you find everywhere on computers, and then a page that has the very top heading strip that shows the name of the doc and a square with my initial in it but is otherwise completely white. I used to be able to get into it, but I'm not able to anymore.
